Make, look or explore?

This guide is written by L’Oiseau Bleu, a ceramics studio in Paris’s 7th arrondissement. We describe our own classes and suggest other creative approaches without claiming to have tested or ranked every workshop in Paris. Check opening times and conditions directly with any museum or venue you choose.

01

Pottery: a guided, hands-on activity

Choose wheel throwing to discover the pottery wheel, or hand-building to explore clay forms differently. L’Oiseau Bleu’s introduction lasts two hours, costs €80 per person and has up to four participants. Pieces stay for firing: this is not a same-day take-home souvenir activity.

02

Sketching: slow down and look

A sketchbook and pencil let you focus on an architectural detail or a street scene. For a self-guided outing, choose somewhere you can sit without obstructing others. For a taught class, check the materials, level and teaching language with its organiser.

03

Photography: a walk with a theme

Choose a theme—doors, colours or facade details—rather than a checklist of monuments. A phone is enough for your own photo walk. Respect passers-by’s privacy and keep pavements clear; in bad weather, consider an indoor activity instead.

04

Museums: spend time with art

If you would rather encounter art than take a class, a museum visit is another option. Musée Rodin and Musée d’Orsay have art collections in Paris. Check their official sites for exhibitions, tickets and opening days before planning your visit.

Plan a creative outing in the 7th

Book your workshop first, then allow time to reach 23 rue Augereau from École Militaire metro. The nearby Champ de Mars offers a way to continue your outing if the weather allows. Avoid scheduling another visit immediately after the two-hour class.

Before your session

Do we need pottery experience?
Not for the introductory class. Nadine guides your first steps at the pottery wheel. English instruction is available on request; mention your preference when booking.
Can we take our pieces home immediately?
No. Pieces need to dry, be fired and glazed. Introductory pieces can be collected about two weeks later. If you leave Paris sooner, contact the studio to arrange collection; international shipping is not promised.
What is included?
The introductory and private classes include clay, tools, firing and glazing. Each class page shows its price and available places.
